If you have played Sonic Generations congratulations you’ve effectively played a good amount of this game over half the game is basically a remaster of Generations and the Shadow Generations stuff seems shoehorned in there. Just a side story with Shadow with nothing added and while I like Generations it also feels like another time Sega has become relatively stagnant and really don’t know what to do with the Blue Blur. They have used the same boost formula for nearly every game since its introduction in Unleashed. This has mostly been fine, but I wouldn’t mind variety in sonic also Frontiers and Forces failure likely had something to do with basically a re release. Frontiers was a confusing mess that had control issues and bad gameplay. Forces had the boost formula, but was a 4 hour game that failed level design and made players wish there was creativity and heart into it. In ways both the games feel rushed and sadly while this is a good game it feels rushed with how much was basically redone with Generations and the Shadow stuff just feels like unreleased DLC over a stand alone title. Yes the graphics and music is good, but that is like saying Generations was good and it was, but not to the point it needs a remake only a few years later. I suppose you should play it if you haven’t played Generations, but if you have just skip this one unless you want to go through another Shadow origin story.
Score: I already played this once. 1/10
